Hyderabad: Boasting an ensemble cast of seven leading ladies, the upcoming romantic drama ‘Bangarraju’ is going to be high on drama while reflecting the rural and traditional lifestyle. As the movie, starring stars Akkineni Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya, bets big this Sankranti, director Kalyan Krishna shares his experience of manoeuvering the project that has been pending for long.

‘Bangarraju’ is a sequel to ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ that was released in 2016. “The story begins where the first part ended. Of course, Lavanya Tripati’s character will not be seen. However, ‘Bangarraju’ has seven leading ladies from the likes of Ramya Krishna to Krithi Shetty to Meenakshi Dixit, Vedika, Pariya, Daksha Nagarkar and Simrat Kaur has a great appearance.”

Although ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ was not written by Kalyan, he was roped in to steer the project. When the movie was released in 2016, Nagarjuna wanted a sequel for it soon after the movie got released. “However, I was asked to come up with a solo story for Naga Chaitanya, that’s when ‘Rarandoi Veduka Chuddam’ was materialised. Later, Chay got busy with other projects and I had to hop on to another project, ‘Nela Ticket’,” he says.

For Kalyan Krishna, the most challenging aspect while handling the project was to give equal importance to the leading men (Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya). “The fan base for both the stars is quite different. This is where I am tested as a filmmaker. It is a bit challenging to handle it. Nagarjuna garu loves singing, so we got the song ‘Laddunda’, which is peppy as well as has a folk touch, in place. This could have been sung by any singer but we know how the audience would enjoy hearing Nag sir,” he adds.

The film boasts as many as six singles with five action blocks. “Each song has been conceptualised and shot very innovatively. Anup Rubens’s expertise was utilised well to bring a unique mood to the story. The lead actors look attractive and flashy, yet they appear natural on-screen. I’m a person who likes to portray good emotions in my films. It drives the story forward. Film doesn’t work unless it has a strong emotional drama. ‘Baahubali’ and ‘KGF’ have good emotion besides their grandeur of filmmaking,” says Kalyan.

Speaking on the character of female actors, the director said, “Krithi Shetty plays a young, qualified engineer who likes to excel in her career with sheer confidence. She believes she is very smart while coming to Ramya Krishna garu, her character is an extension of what she played in ‘Soggade…’.”
