Hyderabad: The Banjara Hills police took a couple of rowdy sheeters and their associates into custody for posing as policemen and allegedly kidnapping three persons and extorting money from them.
According to reports, a man identified as Nikhil, who is a native of AP, had reportedly promised to marry a woman and stayed with her at a house for nine months.
However, due to differences, Nikhil started ignoring the woman and shifted to a different place. Last year, the woman lodged a complaint against Nikhil at the Gachibowli police station and a case was registered against him for allegedly cheating her.
The woman had reportedly given huge amounts of money to Nikhil and, to recover it from him, she came in contact with a few rowdy sheeters with the help of a friend and sought their assistance.
The rowdy sheeters, allegedly posing as policemen, caught Sai, a friend of Nikhil, and called the latter to the city. Nikhil, who was in Anantapur, came to the city along with a friend.
The rowdy sheeters allegedly kidnapped Mahesh, Nikhil and Sai, took them to a farmhouse and confined them there.
They extorted Rs 13 lakh from them and released Nikhil, Mahesh and Sai after they assured them that the remaining amount would be paid soon.
However, as Nikhil was receiving phone calls to clear the remaining amount and fearing for his life, he approached the Banjara Hills police, who launched an investigation and nabbed five persons, including the two rowdy sheeters.
