Hyderabad: The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), which is an umbrella body of 9 bank unions, has called for a two-day strike starting December 16 to protest the government’s decision to privatise several banks in the country.

Banks will be closed on December 16 (Thursday) and December 17 (Friday). While mobile and net banking services will be operated as expected, several bank branches will remain closed. ATM services are likely to get affected too.  


According to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s announcement, the government plans to privatise two more public sector banks this year — apart from the sale of IDBI Bank. According to the unions, the move will cut down employment opportunities and jobs will be contractual rather than permanent, affecting job security..
