Basar temple town cut off as Godavari floods rise
The temple town of Basar in Mancherial was cut off as the Godavari river swelled due to heavy rains. Several localities and the road to Sri Saraswathi Devasthanam were submerged. Students, teachers, and rescuers were stranded as floods disrupted normal life

Mancherial: The temple town of Basar was isolated by the backwaters of Godavri river, which is in spate following heavy rains in upstream areas on Saturday.
Several parts of the town such as Suryeshwara Shivalayam, Akshara Colony, SBI, union Bank, choultries of various communities were inundated by backwaters of the river. A road leading to the ancient Sri Saraswathi Devasthanam was submerged, affecting connectivity to the town.
Around 30 students studying in Nagabhushanam school and six teachers were stranded. They climbed atop a building of the school for safety. Eight persons, who ventured to rescue the students and teachers, were also trapped in the floods. Officials said the floods were likely to continue disrupting normal life in the temple town.
