Hyderabad: South Central Railway set up a summit clash with Central Tax & Customs in the inaugural Legends Basketball Tournament conducted by City College Old Boys Basketball Club. The two finalists faced stiff resistance from their respective rivals Nizam Basketball Academy and Sanathnagar Playground.
South Central Railway were kept on a leash by the youthful NBA team. The scoreline read 27 all in the first half. However, the Railmen picked up the scoring in the third quarter and scored 31 points against 12 by the loser with top scorer Vijay, Santosh and Kaushik combining well in spite of a spirited display by the loser.
Majid and Balaji who have had a fine run in the championship along with Charan did trouble the Railway defence but the experience and height advantage took the SCR team to a spot in the final with a 85-62 verdict.
Sanathnagar Playground started off well against an ageing Customs and Central Tax team with Nikhil Sai and Shoaib striking it rich. The counterattack of the Sanathnagar team kept the winners in arrears at the halftime at 38-48 before the tall Chandrahas Reddy along with Rohit, Varma and Vijay rallied splendidly to ensure a place in the final for the Customs side.
Results: South Central Railway 85 (Vijay 26 Kaushik 11 Santhosh 18) bt Nizam Basketball Academy 62 (Balaji 23 Charan 12 Majid 13); Customs & Central Tax 86 (Chandrahas Reddy 19 Rohit 14 Varma 12 Vijay Kumar 15) bt Sanathnagar Playground 80 (Nikhil Sai 27 Shoaib 22).
