Hyderabad: CLP leader Mallu Batti Vikramarka on Tuesday lashed out at the BJP government at the Centre for its discrimination towards Telangana in sanctioning projects and allocating funds.

“Telangana is one of the leading contributors to India’s GDP. Yet, the Central government does not allocate projects and creates hurdles in development works taken up in the State,” he said, during discussions on the Appropriation Bill in the Assembly here.

The Central government sanctioned 171 medical colleges to different States across the country but not a single college was sanctioned to Telangana, he said, adding: “Each medical college gets Rs.200 crore grants and Telangana lost this financial assistance.”

Similarly, not a single Navodaya Schools was sanctioned to the State, while 84 such institutions were approved for other State, he said, and asked: “Why is the Central Government discriminating Telangana.”

In the past, the Congress government established several Public Sector Units (PSUs) to ensure that the country’s wealth was distributed among the people. However, the BJP Government was selling off many PSUs, he pointed out.

Batti Vikramarka thanked the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for increasing the pay scale of employees of SERP and MEPMA on par with the State government employees and absorbing Village Revenue Assistants (VRAs) into the Irrigation department apart from reinstating field assistants.

He also appreciated the Chief Minister for bringing to the notice of the House the false propaganda launched by the Central government. He termed the Central government’s move to take control over the irrigation projects in the State as a dangerous trend. “It’s very disturbing since one of the key issues for the Statehood movement was water,” he said.
