BDL to supply 160 SAT-SAAW weapons to Indian Air Force

The Ministry of Defence has signed a Rs 810.79-crore contract with Hyderabad-based Bharat Dynamics Limited for 160 SAT-SAAW weapons and associated equipment for the Indian Air Force, with deliveries scheduled between 2027-28 and 2028-29

Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) is set to supply Satellite Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons (SAT-SAAW) to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The Ministry of Defence on Wednesday signed a contract with BDL for the procurement of 160 SAT-SAAW systems along with associated equipment for the IAF at a total cost of Rs 810.79 crore under the Buy (Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category.

Deliveries of SAT-SAAW are scheduled between 2027-28 and 2028-29. Its induction would enhance the operational capability of the IAF to continue its unhindered operations and strengthen the defence preparedness of the country.

The SAT-SAAW is an air-to-ground precision-guided glide bomb that can be launched from platforms such as Jaguar, Hawk and Su-30MKI. It has the capability to neutralise enemy airfields from a long stand-off range.

Indigenously designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the system will have an indigenous content of 60 per cent, along with indigenous sub-systems such as the inertial measurement unit, long impact delay fuse and twin-store carrier, further boosting Aatmanirbharta in defence.
