Mancherial: In an embarrassment to the State government, beneficiaries rejected the Bathukamma sarees that were distributed in Kasipet mandal centre on Thursday.
The women expressed displeasure over the quality of the sarees and rejected them when officials of Indira Kranthi Pathakam (IKP) were distributing them.
They said the sarees which had labels of the State government, were emanating a foul smell. They found fault with the officials for giving away sub-standard quality sarees.
Shocked by the rejection, the officials suspended the programme. IKP officials said 10,770 saris were sanctioned to Kasipet mandal.
Distribution of the sarees was conducted as per instructions of higher officials. However, the programme was cancelled, following the protest from the beneficiaries.
