Mancherial: Two persons including a person from Bengaluru were arrested for allegedly cheating the public under the guise of high returns through multi-level marketing business. Three mobile phones, a car, liquid cash Rs 58,000 and sanitizing products worth Rs 4 lakh were seized from their possession.

Producing them before mediapersons here on Thursday, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana said the accused were Mamidi Kamalakar, a resident of College Road in Mancherial town and Raja Gowswami belonging to Adarshanagar in Bengaluru. They were detained when moving suspiciously during a vehicle check.

During the course of investigations, Kamalakar confessed to committing crime with the help of Gowswami in order to lead a lavish lifestyle for quite a long time. He admitted that they both extracted Rs 44 lakh by luring the gullible people by promising to offer 72 percent of interest on their investments. He revealed that he had previously worked as an agent in various multi-level marketing businesses.

Kamalakar, who was arrested on the charges of similar offence in 2016 and was released on a bail, established a multi-level marketing firm, titled Juauival on July 25 last. He and Gowswami were working as managing directors of the firm. They enticed the public by promising to double the investment in a short span of time. They won the trust of the customers by transferring funds for a few days.

Commissioner said that the duo was aiming at earning Rs 10 crore through the fraudulent business in a year. He stated that the two had duped 110 persons belonging to Mancherial, Adilabad, Kadapa, Visakhapatnam, Anantapur, Odisha, Maharashtra and Benguluru. Their act was exposed when Govindula Rajesham, a victim from Mandamarri town lodged a complaint with police.

The IPS officer commended Task Force Inspectors T Kiran, and M Raj Kumar, Mancherial Inspector ML Mutti Lingaiah, Sub-Inspectors Ch Kiran, Lacchanna, Praveen, their team members Sampath Kumar, Sadanandam Goud, Srinivas, Bhaskar Goud, Shyamsundar, Venkatesh, Omkar, Rakesh, Mahikanth and Satheesh for arresting the two.
