Nirmal: Setting an example to government employees in serving the needy, a doctor and nurses working with a State-run hospital in Bhainsa performed delivery of a woman belonging to Maharashtra who was infected by Covid-19 on Saturday.
Laxmibai, a resident of Dharmabad in neighbouring Maharashtra was admitted to the government-run Area Hospital in Bhainsa when she developed labour pains on Friday. She tested positive for Covid-19, while doctors were making arrangements for handling her delivery. However, Dr Padmavathi, nurses Shailaja, Suneetha and Anasuya were not fazed by the virus.
By strictly adhering to protocol of Covid-19, the doctor and her team wore PPE kits and successfully conducted the normal delivery of Laxmibai who gave birth to a baby boy. Medical condition of the new mother and newborn is learned to be stable. They will be discharged from the hospital in a day or two. She was advised to undergo home-isolation to get rid of the virus.
Padmavathi and the staffers of the hospital won accolades from many for performing the delivery, facing the risk of getting contracted by the virus. The husband of the hapless woman expressed gratitude to the doctor and nurses for coming to their rescue.
