Khammam: Bharat bandh called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of over 40 farmer unions, passed off peacefully in erstwhile Khammam.

The bandh coupled with heavy downpour has affected normal life. Business establishments, shops, schools and colleges remained closed for the day as the public extended solidarity to the bandh. Public transportation was also affected due to the bandh.

Left parties, such as CPI, CPM, CPI (ML) New Democracy, Congress and others took out protest rallies against farm laws introduced by the Centre. The leaders of the parties dubbed the farm law harmful to the farming community yet the Modi government was turning a blind eye to the farmers’ demand to repeal the laws.

It was sad to note that the BJP government at the Centre remained adamant even as the farmers across the country were protesting against the Farm Laws for the past nine months. The Centre was giving priority to the interests of corporate companies instead of farmers and the common public, the CPI leader B Hemantha Rao alleged.
