Karimnagar: The ‘Bharath Bandh’ call given by Samyuktha Kisan Morcha (SKM) against the new farm laws evoked poor response from the public in the erstwhile Karimnagar district on Friday.

All business establishments including hotels, cinema theaters, petrol bunks, and others worked as usual. TSRTC buses were also operated on all routes without any disturbance.

In Karimnagar, police arrested the leaders and workers of Left parties when they tried to enter the district headquarters bus stand and stop bus services in the early morning. They were shifted to the police training centre.

Protesting against the ‘illegal’ arrests, CPI activists burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kaman chowk. Meanwhile, SFI, DYFI, KVPS, tribal association and people’s organisations burnt effigy of Union Minsters at the Telangana chowk.

On the other hand, CPI (M) and CITU workers staged rasta roko in Choppadandi. Speaking on the occasion, Left parties leaders alleged that though farmers were agitating in Delhi for the last four months, the Prime Minister was least bothered about it. Besides opposition parties, some of the State governments being ruled by the BJP were also opposing the farm laws. Modi was ignoring the farmers in order to benefit big businessmen and corporate forces, they alleged.
