Hyderabad: The fire mishap which claimed 11 lives is one of the tragic and major rescue operations taken up by the Fire & Rescue Services so far in the city. Officials said it took three hours of firefighting and eight fire engines to prevent further spread of the fire, but lives could not be saved.
According to fire officials, when the rescue operation started, they had not imagined that they were about to witness a tragedy of this scale.
“Like any other timber depot or scrap warehouse, we thought it would be only combustible material inside. Usually, workers leave after work in the evening. We had no space to enter and had to break the shutter,” said Mohd Mustafa, a fire official who took part in the operation.
After dousing the fire on the ground floor, the teams had the shock of their lives as they saw the charred bodies of the victims piled up on each other in the room on the first floor.
“The iron staircase was piping hot and we could not use it. Somehow we manage to bring the bodies down with gunny bags and stretchers, Mustafa said.
