Nalgonda: Minister for Excise and Tourism V Srinivas Goud on Monday said Bhongir Fort would be developed into a modern tourist spot before the reopening of Sri Yadadri Lakshminarsimha Swamy temple.
The Minister was speaking after visiting the ancient fort atop a monolithic stone hillock along with Bhongir MLA Pyalla Shaker Reddy and former MP Boora Narsaiah Goud.
Srinivas Goud said that three acres of land would be allocated for setting up a ropeway to Bhongir Fort. The report prepared by officials for development of Bhongir Fort would soon be submitted to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. He assured that measures would be taken up to further develop the rock climbing school located at the Fort.
“Several mountaineers including Malavath Poorna and S Anand Kumar, who scaled Mount Everest, have trained at the Rock Climbing School of Bhongir,” he observed.
Later, at a review meeting with officials of excise and prohibition department, the Minister inquired about the measures for implementation of Covid-19 norms at liquor shops. Stating that Yadadri-Bhongir district had turned into an illicit liquor business-free district, he suggested that the officials ensure that the district continues to remain so. Excise department personnel should also conduct checks on trains that pass through the district to check illegal transportation of ganja.
He also inquired about the survival rate of palm trees planted under Telangana Ku Haritha Haram. As part of Neera policy, the State government would provide marketing facilities to products made after processing of toddy. He instructed the officials to develop palm forests on lands allocated to 50 toddy tappers’ societies.
Additional Collector Kheemya Naik, Deputy Commissioner of Excise Vishnu Priya and others were also present.
