Hyderabad: Child rights lawyer Bhuwan Ribhu has become the first Indian lawyer to be conferred with the ‘Medal of Honour’ by the World Jurist Association (WJA) at the World Law Congress. Held from May 4 to 6 in the Dominican Republic, the event brought together over 1500 legal luminaries and 300 speakers from more than 70 countries.

Bhuwan Ribhu has, in the last 20 years, has filed and led 60 PILs for child protection and child rights which resulted in landmark rulings in the Supreme Court of India and various High Courts. He is also the founder of Just Rights for Children (JRC), the world’s largest legal intervention network for child protection—with its presence globally.


There are 10 NGO partners of JRC working for child protection in 25 districts of Telangana and to end child marriage by 2030.

With over two decades of advocacy and legal intervention, Bhuwan Ribhu has led legal campaigns and on-ground actions combating child marriage, trafficking, child labour, and child sexual abuse.
