Adilabad: Ending the two-year-long wait, a detailed project report prepared by a private firm was finally submitted to the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA)-Utnoor.

The report will enable the agency to take up developmental works at popular tourist spots such as Kuntala Waterfalls, a historic tribal fort in Utnoor mandal and Mitte or Sapthagundala waterfalls located in erstwhile Adilabad district. The estimated cost of the works is Rs 9 crore. The spots will be able to attract tourists from not only the State but also from other parts of the country.

The Tribal Culture Research and Training Mission (TCRTM), a wing of the Tribal Development Department sanctioned funds to create better amenities at the three tourist spots in 2019. A private agency of Hyderabad was roped in to prepare the DPR. However, the preparation of the report was delayed, affecting the development of the spots.

ITDA Utnoor Project Officer Ankith said the report was received a few days ago. Steps are being taken to convert the spots into more attractive destinations than in the past by improving basic facilities and introducing new features, with the help of grants. The works will be commenced at the earliest. The fort and waterfalls will undergo a makeover.

As per authorities of the department, Rs 3.98 crore has been allocated to construct cottages to provide accommodation to visitors of the famed Kuntala Waterfalls, caution boards and a fence around the fall will be erected to prevent accidents. Viewpoints are going to be developed for the convenience of tourists. The natural wonder will get a fillip.

The majestic tribal fort, built by Raj Gond King Hanamantha Rayudu in Utnoor town in the 18th century, will be transformed on the lines of Shilparamam of Hyderabad using funds Rs 3.50 crore. Photographs and paintings depicting the culture and traditions of ethnic tribes, musical instruments, an open theatre and a museum would be created. The fort is going to be repaired.

Road facility to Mitte waterfalls

Spending Rs 1.52 crore, a road facility will be formed to the picturesque Sapthagundala waterfalls, found in dense forests on the outskirts of Mankuguda village in Lingapur mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. It is a series of seven falls situated in different parts along the course of the stream and the dense forests of the district.
