Bihar Police report 694 detained in student protests; 91 policemen injured

Bihar Police Headquarters reported that 694 people, including many students and minors, were detained during statewide protests on July 25. While 339 were released after verification, 355 were produced before court for alleged violent acts. The clashes left 91 police personnel injured, including senior officers, and caused damage to government property.

Patna: The Bihar Police Headquarters on Monday released detailed information on the law-and-order situation that unfolded across several districts during protests, demonstrations, and marches organised by various student organisations and student wings of political parties on July 25.

According to the police, a total of 694 people were detained during the statewide agitation, including a large number of students and minors.


The Police Headquarters stated that 339 minors and students were released after verification, while 355 individuals allegedly involved in violent incidents were produced before the court in accordance with legal procedures.

Officials said the roles of those produced before the court are under investigation, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.

According to the report, 91 police officers and personnel were injured in incidents involving stone-pelting, attacks on police, damage to government property, and other acts of violence.

Among the injured are the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of Siwan and Sitamarhi, two Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), and several Station House Officers (SHOs).

The SHO of Gandhi Maidan police station was reported to have sustained critical injuries.

The Police Headquarters further stated that 14 government vehicles were damaged, while one government vehicle was set on fire during the violence.

In addition, 13 civilians were reported injured in various incidents across the state.

The report described the violence in Saran district as particularly serious.

According to the police, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Sadar Block suffered critical injuries and reportedly lost vision in one eye following the attack. He is currently undergoing treatment at IGIMS, Patna.

The BDO of Revelganj Block in Saran was also allegedly attacked and sustained a severe head injury. He underwent surgery at Medanta Hospital and remains under medical supervision.

Police officials said both officers are in critical condition and their health continues to be closely monitored.

In its statement, the Bihar Police Headquarters said incidents involving violence, damage to public property, and attacks on police and administrative officials under the guise of protests are being treated with utmost seriousness.

It added that those responsible are being identified through available evidence and that legal proceedings are underway.

The police also reiterated that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain law and order across the state.
