Hyderabad: New Delhi-based Bikanervala Foods (Bikano), a snack and packaged food company, has set up a new manufacturing unit in Telangana with an investment of about Rs 50 crore, with a potential to create over 250 jobs in the near-term. The plant will primarily cater to Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra markets.
Bikano has five major production facilities spread across New Delhi, Greater Noida (UP), and Rai (Haryana). The company’s products are packed under ambient conditions through an application called MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging).
Manish Aggarwal, director, Bikano, Bikanervala Foods, told Telangana Today, “We have invested about Rs 50 crore in setting up the unit at Manoharabad (near Hyderabad), Medak, Telangana. The facility has a capacity of 100 tonnes per day. Having begun operations last week, we intend to employ over 250 people soon.”
He added, “We understand that the southern region has a huge market potential for Bikano, and we have been meaning to step into it for a while. With this new plant in Telangana, we are creating a lasting production and supply footprint in the south that we can keep building.”
The company after carrying out research & analysis of the southern market, has decided to step in with the namkeen & sweets category. Along with its ongoing products, it is launching a few products that will specially cater to the southern taste palette.
Bikano will begin with the production of namkeens and sweets at the new plant, before adding other categories to the list. Since the company is already available via modern retail channels to the entire nation, it expects to consolidate its position further south through its expansion plans in the coming years.
What began as “Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar” in 1950, a shop in Chandni Chowk in New Delhi, has turned into a global brand. Today, it has presence in over 35 countries including the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Middle East, Africa, and the Indian sub-continent.
