Hyderabad: Five persons, including a GHMC contract employee, were arrested by the SR Nagar police on charges of issuing birth certificates fraudulently. The police seized fabricated documents, six mobile phones and Rs.19,400 from them.
The arrested persons were Akula Satish (36) a contract employee working in the GHMC Khairatabad circle, Mohd Rasool (42), Syed Hussain Iqbal (49), Arif Ahmed (56) and Mohd Rasheed (43), all brokers. Two others, Aziz Kasim, a health assistant with GHMC Circle 7 and Ankit, were absconding.
According to DCP (West) Joel Davis, the prime suspect Kasim with the help of Satish was issuing birth certificates to brokers after collecting Rs.1,000 for each certificate. As per procedure, an applicant has to approach the Citizen Service Centre of the GHMC and apply for the certificate. After the details are verified, the certificate is uploaded in the GHMC records and the applicant should collect the certificate from a Mee Seva centre, which generally takes around 15 days.
“Kasim and Satish collected applications directly from brokers, prepared the certificates and issued to the applicant within a day. Not only did they violate laid down procedures, but in certain cases they issued certificates mentioning dates as directed by brokers and not the original date of birth,” the DCP said.
