Hyderabad: BJP MP from Nizamabad, Dharmapuri Arvind has accused the Congress of misusing power and resorting to unethical practices to capture the Nizamabad Mayor’s post in the wake of a hung verdict in the Municipal Corporation.
The Nizamabad Municipal Corporation has 60 divisions. Of these, the BJP won 28 divisions, the Congress secured 17, AIMIM bagged 14 and the BRS won one division. With no party securing a clear majority, there is considerable curiosity over which party will stake claim to the Mayor’s post.
Amid the suspense, Dharmapuri Arvind shared a video on X and said, “In a viral video circulating on social media, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud is seen directing police officials to pick up the lone BRS corporator regarding the capture of the Nizamabad Mayor seat.”
“If this claim is true, it points to a blatant misuse of the police machinery by the Congress government for political purposes,” the BJP MP said.
Responding to the post, BJP State president N Ramchander Rao alleged that the Congress, which he said had a long history of disregarding the people’s verdict, was now attempting to steal the mandate in Nizamabad through unholy means.
“Let this be remembered – it is the Congress, which delivers lofty sermons on Democracy and the constitution, while repeatedly undermining both when it suits its political convenience,” Rao said on X.
