Hyderabad: Dismissing the Congress party’s candlelight rally held on Saturday, the Telangana BJP has demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy step down as Education Minister over the delay in clearing students’ fee reimbursement dues.

BJP State president N Ramchander Rao said the BJP had demonstrated its commitment to students through the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

He demanded that the Congress government clear the pending fee reimbursement dues within a week if it was genuinely committed to the student community.

“I am appalled by the radio silence of the so-called custodians of youth over the pending fee reimbursement crisis in the Congress-ruled Telangana. Nearly 20 lakh students are unable to pursue higher education or employment because their certificates have been withheld,” Rao posted on X.

Addressing the media on Sunday, Rao claimed that the State government owed Rs 12,000 crore towards fee reimbursement.

“Revanth Reddy should clear the pending fee reimbursement dues within a week and hand over the Education portfolio to someone else. The BJP has proved its commitment, and Revanth Reddy should prove his,” he said.

Rao also accused the Chief Minister of ignoring the fee reimbursement issue while participating in a candlelight rally in solidarity with students. He remarked that the same candles would eventually turn against the Congress government.
