Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) condemned the police action against Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers who were protesting at Directorate of Medical Education(DME) situated at Koti demanding fulfillment of the promise made by the Congress party during assembly polls on Monday.

BJP official spokesperson NV Subhash said the Congress had promised in its manifesto that it would increase the salaries of ASHA workers and provide job security as soon as it came to power, but so far nothing had been done in that direction. On one hand the Congress government was unveiling the statue of Telangana Thalli, and on other it was committing atrocities on women on the same day, he alleged.

“Is this what Indira Gandhi’s rule is? Is insulting women and encouraging atrocities against women a form of governance? Is insulting women a gift to Sonia Gandhi? We strongly oppose not only the police’s actions against Asha workers,”he said.

The BJP would stand by the Asha workers until the State government fulfills their just demands, he said.
