Hyderabad: Member of Legislative Council K Kavitha, who said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) would sweep the GHMC elections, on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress had no right to seek votes from the people as they had forcibly stopped distribution of the interim financial assistance from the government to flood-affected families in the city.

She was interacting with the media after accompanying the TRS candidate in the Gandhinagar division Mutta Padma for filing her nomination papers at the municipal office in Abids.

Stating that the party’s victory in the GHMC elections would start from Gandhinagar, Kavitha asked how the national parties could ask for votes when they had stalled the flood relief distribution to the poor people affected by the rains. The BJP-led NDA government had not give a single paisa for the families in the city and on top of that, it had also stalled whatever assistance the State government was trying to extend to the affected people.

Replying to a question, she said anyone could ask the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on why the Central government did not extend financial assistance to the flood-hit families. After the outbreak of COVID-19 also, the Central government had not extended any help to people in the State.

Be it the floods or the pandemic, it was the TRS government that came to the rescue of the people and served them. The TRS government under the leadership of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has taken up various development works in the city at a cost over Rs.67,000 crore over the last six years.

“We will explain to the people the various development activities carried out in the twin cities in the last six years,” Kavitha said, exuding confidence that the TRS would win the elections this time too. The Gandhinagar division can expect more development once the TRS candidate was re-elected, she added.
