Mancherial: Activists and leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mancherial district unit, staged a dharna by standing in knee-deep water in the Godavari demanding the commencement of works of a proposed bridge across the river on Monday.
BJP district president Verabelli Raghunath Rao said that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao duped the public of Mancherial by not constructing the bridge, which he promised in elections to Telangana Legislative Assembly in 2018. He flayed Mancherial MLA N Diwakar Rao and local leaders of TRS for showing disinterest in fulfilling the poll promise.
Raghunath further said that the government allocated Rs 125 crore for erecting the structure, but tendering process was not carried out so far. He stated that the travelling distance between Ramagundam of Peddapalli and Mancherial would drastically be reduced with the advent of the facility. He demanded the government to initiate the construction of the bridge at the earliest. Else, BJP would intensify stir, he warned.
