Hyderabad: Several BJP-ruled States in the country took more loans than Telangana, contrary to the allegations leveled by the local BJP and Congress leaders in the State.

The statement of the union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary’s in Lok Sabha on Monday was apparently unpalatable for the opposition parties leaders, as it laid bare the truth that the youngest State in the country was far better than those ruled by the BJP.

Sometime ago, the State BJP leaders vociferously orchestrated a campaign that Telangana was steeped in debts, but in their eagerness to deride the progress in Telangana, they seemed to have ‘ignored’ the fact that several BJP-ruled States in the country exceeded Telangana in securing market loans.

For instance, during 2018-19 financial year, Gujarat obtained Rs.36,971 crore market loans, Karnataka obtained Rs.39,600 crore, Uttar Pradesh gathered Rs. 46,000 crore while Telangana secured Rs.26,740 crore. This has been the trend during the last four financial years.

Cut to 2021-22 financial year, Gujarat secured Rs.42,000 crore as market loans, Karnataka Rs 67,100 crore, Uttar Pradesh garnered Rs.70,150, Madhya Pradesh obtained Rs.47,760 crore, while Telangana managed Rs.47,500 crore.

What’s more striking is that all these facts and figures were shared by the union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in Parliament, while responding to BJP MP Sunil Kumar Soni.

The Telangana Government has been maintaining that loans should be considered as measures to create assets for future generations and borrowings of the State were well within the FRBM limits. But, the State BJP leaders have been making a loud noise on the loans obtained by Telangana.
