Karimnagar: Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Sunday said the BJP had no right to seek votes from the Padmashali community people since it had stopped all schemes intended for the welfare of weavers.

Addressing a press conference in Huzurabad on Sunday, Harish Rao came down heavily on BJP leaders for making tall promises during a meeting with the members of Padmashali community in Jammikunta on Sunday. “Why should people from the weavers community vote for the BJP, which ruined the livelihood of the community by stopping all welfare schemes. Has the Union government led by the BJP introduced any scheme for the welfare of weavers?” he questioned.

Instead of introducing new schemes, the Minister said the Central government abolished existing schemes by the All India Handloom Board, and All India Handicraft Board. While the BJP government was abolishing schemes, the Telangana government was introducing new schemes to protect the interests of the weaving community, he said and urged the weavers community to boycott the BJP in Huzurabad.

Except shutting down schemes, Harish Rao said the BJP had done nothing for the welfare of the weavers. Union Ministers, who participated in the Huzurabad by-election campaign, should tell what kind of alternative schemes they would introduce in place of the ones which were abolished, he demanded. In order to provide employment to weavers, Telangana government was purchasing cloth weaved by them for various purposes.

Instead of criticising the Telangana Rashtra Samtihi by conducting meetings, the BJP should tell what they had done for the welfare of the weavers, the Minister remarked.

Besides weavers, people from all castes, groups and religions were with the TRS, which was getting huge response from the public, Harish said.

TRS candidate Gellu Srinivas Yadav was going to win the election with a thumping majority and the BJP leaders cannot prevent his victory even if they tried with all their might.
