Jagtial: A BJP leader, Thirumani Ramana (53), who went missing from February 18, was found dead in his car in a flood flow canal near Mallial mandal on Sunday. Police said Ramana left home in his car on February 18 and had not returned to his house in Suddapalli village of Pegadapalli mandal. His family members lodged a police complaint the next day, and an investigation was taken up.
Though the police checked CCTV cameras fixed in surrounding areas, the movements of the deceased person’s car were not recorded. On Sunday, they received information from local people that a car had surfaced in the waters of the flood flow canal near Mallial.
When the vehicle was retrieved from the water, Ramana’s body was found in the car. Police are investigating whether the car might have plunged into the canal. They are probing all possible angles leading to his death. Ramana, who contested the recent sarpanch elections, lost by a narrow margin.
