Mancherial: In a major jolt to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party’s Mandamarri town president Maddi Shankar and several other activists on Monday resigned from the primary membership of the party alleging anti-people’s policies and discrimination against Telangana.

In a press statement, Shankar regretted that the BJP had done nothing either to Telangana or to the district. “It is causing loss to the State by taking unilateral decisions. Above all, Prime Minister Narender Modi belittled the formation of a separate State in Parliament. All these developments indicate that Modi has no positive opinion on the creation of Telangana,” he lamented.

The town president said the union government’s move to auction three coal blocks belonging to Telangana was not acceptable since Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao and others staged a three-day protest opposing the decision. This reflected the adamant and stubborn attitude of the BJP, he remarked.

Shankar further said that he was displeased by the poor allocation funds to Telangana by the Centre. He declared that he could not associate with the party and continue as an anti-public leader. He recalled that he had taken part in a hunger strike demanding creation of Telangana State in the past. “I followed my heart in taking the decision to resign from BJP,” he said.

He informed that the party’s town vice-presidents Andugula Laxman, Biyyala Sammaiah, general secretary Sepuri Laxman, secretary Donugu Ramesh, treasurer Murali, Yuva Morcha president Rangu Ramesh, BC Morcha president Pusala Odelu, Booth presidents Bandi Ravi and Chelleti Tirupathi too resigned to the outfit. He added that he would disclose his political action plan soon.
