Karimnagar: Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar found fault with BJP for trying to misguide farmers by staging dharnas demanding the State government to purchase paddy produced in Vaanakalam season.

It was meaningless to stage dharnas while the State government has already started procurement by opening paddy purchase centres across the State. The BJP leaders, who were always spreading lies for their political gains, were trying to create confusion among farmers with their activities, the Minister said.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Kamalakar questioned as to where was the need to stage dharnas when procurement process had already started and the State government had purchased paddy worth Rs 1,000 crore from 72,000 farmers by opening 3,550 paddy procurement centres across the State.

Informing that a centre was established in every village, he said two centres were also opened in some villages for the convenience of farmers. Being the Minister of Civil Supplies Department, he said he would take the responsibility if procurement was not being done in any place.

Moreover, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had made it clear that the State government would purchase each and every grain produced by the farmers in Vaanakalam. So, the question of non-procurement would not be raised, he said.

Though there was no dispute over purchase of Vaanakam crop, the BJP leaders staged dharnas to counter the TRS’ proposed dharnas scheduled on Friday demanding the Union government to procure Yasangi season’s paddy.

The Centre had already issued orders denying the procurement of boiled rice of Yasangi season. Instead of talking about the Centre’s decision, the State BJP leaders were trying to misguide farmers by staging dharnas.

Stating that Telangana was not the right place for BJP leaders to stage dharnas, the Minister advised the saffron party leaders to stage dharna in Delhi.

BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy should take the responsibility to purchase the crop. Else, TRS leaders along with farmers would stage dharna in front of Sanjay and Kishan Reddy’s houses.

Appealing to the farmers not to believe BJP leaders since the latter was always trying to misguide people, he advised ryots to grill the BJP leaders during dharnas.

In Karimnagar district, about 93,172 tonnes of crop (worth Rs 185 crore) was purchased from 12,000 farmers by inaugurating 346 PPCs. Over 3.5 lakh tonnes is expected to arrive in this season, Kamalakar said.
