Hyderabad: Kamareddy BJP MLA Venkataramana Reddy on Tuesday lodged a complaint with Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) commissioner AV Ranganath, urging him to take action against five companies allegedly involved in illegal encroachments and constructions on water bodies in Hyderabad.
Speaking to the media after meeting Ranganath at the HYDRAA office here, Reddy alleged that these companies were encroaching lakes and engaging in unauthorized constructions. He warned that if the government fails to address the issue, he would approach the courts against these companies. The five companies have been granted permission for construction despite the illegal encroachment on tanks, he alleged.
Expressing displeasure over Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, he said their statements indicated a lack of intention to act against these encroachments. “Ten days after I raised the issue, the CM announced that the government would not interfere with constructions that have received permissions. Who granted these permissions, and why are no actions being taken against them?” he asked.
He demanded action against the officials responsible for issuing these permissions and said that there was an urgent need for stricter legislation to curb land encroachment effectively.
