Hyderabad: Finance Minister T Harish Rao defended the Speaker’s decision to suspend the BJP legislators for the entire budget session. He said BJP MLAs were suspended for entering the well of the House as per the decision taken during the previous BAC meetings. He reminded that Congress MLAs were not suspended as they did not rush towards the Speaker’s podium.

The Finance Minister also pointed out that 12 opposition MPs were suspended from Rajya Sabha recently for merely standing at their respective seats as a mark of protest. “How can there be different rules for Centre and State?,” asked Harish Rao, adding the BJP legislator deliberately rushed towards the Speaker’s podium as they wanted to get suspended from the House to derive political mileage.

The Finance Minister during an informal chat with media persons on Monday, said nearly 30 new schemes were introduced in the State budget. The Minister further clarified that double bedroom housing scheme would be continued along with the proposed scheme of extending financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh to construct house for people in their plots.

BAC Meeting

The budget session of Telangana legislature will be conducted till March 15. The decision to this effect was taken during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting chaired by Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy here on Monday.

The Congress and AIMIM leaders had insisted that the session should be conducted for a longer period to discuss on different issues. However, assuring to give ample time for discussions on issues of public interests, the State government said the session would be conducted till March 15. If needed, the BAC would meet again on March 15 to decide on continuing the session for more days, it is learnt. The State legislature will not meet on March 8 and 13.
