Hyderabad: The BJP State unit has decided to boycott the “Praja Palana Day” celebrations, being organised by the State government on September 17, the day the erstwhile Nizam-ruled Hyderabad state was integrated with the Indian union in 1948.

Union Coal Minister and BJP State chief G Kishan Reddy wrote a letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy stating that his party could not be part of an “insincere ritual that blatantly attempts to erase the truth from the people”. To describe the liberation of Hyderabad as just another transition of power from a monarchy to a democracy not only subverts the heroic struggle but also propagates further the politics of appeasement, he said.

“The State government’s intent seems to be to deflect the people’s attention from the core aspects of the struggle, which is evident in the very name given to the day,” he alleged.

The Centre has invited the Chief Minister to the ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’ celebrations at Parade Ground, however, he has expressed his inability to attend the programme, stating that was preoccupied with official functions.

Meanwhile, The union Culture Ministry is all set to organise Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations at Parade Ground on Tuesday.
