Hyderabad: The State BJP on Friday demanded deployment of special forces to monitor the law and order situation in Hyderabad to “pre-empt the designs of anti-social elements to create trouble.” The party also demanded appointment of special observers to ensure free and fair elections to the GHMC.

A BJP delegation led by BJP OBC Morcha National President K Laxman, MLC N Ramchander Rao, BJP State Vice President Chintala Ramchandra Reddy, met Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at Raj Bhavan here and submitted a memorandum in which they also demanded that no government official attend Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s review programmes as they are being used for political purposes.

The BJP said that while the campaign has been peaceful so far, the State government has stated that it has credible information about “some anti-nationals hatching a conspiracy to foment communal riots with a view to get the elections postponed. “Minister KT Rama Rao made a similar statement days before Dubbak by-election claiming that BJP was trying to create a law and order problem,” the BJP said. The party submitted that the TRS was trying to intimidate and browbeat people in the name of riots and thereby attempt to make people suspect the opposition parties.

“The CMO’s statement is a cleverly crafted tact to divert the attention of the people of Hyderabad from the core civic issues,” the BJP said. Suspecting that the ballot system of voting would result in malpractices particularly in the old city, the BJP said that it has reason to believe that fair and free elections would not be possible as long as the systems were under the control of the State government.

The party also lodged a complaint with the Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC) that Congress was allowed to advertise with the help of balloons while the same facility was denied by the election authorities to BJP. BJP said that Congress party is using sky balloons in the GHMC area particularly at LB Indoor stadium, Saroornagar and Kothapet to Nagole road.
