Hyderabad: BJP national general secretary and Telangana affairs in-charge Tarun Chug on Wednesday said the party would continue to fight on issues pertaining to the people and employees even if the police tried to resort to repressive measures against the party activists.
Interacting with media persons at the State party office in Nampally here, he said the ruling party was scuttling the voices of opposition parties for taking up people’s issues. Referring to the arrest of State party president Bandi Sanjay Kumar in Karimnagar, Chug alleged that the police booked false cases against Sanjay and arrested him.
Taking exception to the alleged police high-handedness in Karimnagar, he said the IPS officer who was responsible for developments in Karimnagar, was already served a privilege motion by the Lok Sabha Speaker.
“At the behest of the same officer, the police used ropes and gas cutters to enter Sanjay’s office in Karimnagar to arrest him. Is Sanjay a criminal or a gangster like Dawood Ibrahim?” Chug asked.
Though the police booked a false case and arrested Sanjay, the High Court rendered justice to him by squashing his remand. “We thank the High Court for rendering justice to Sanjay,” he said.
The police officers should first know that the country is run as per the Constitution, he said.
BJP OBC Morcha national president K Laxman said the quashing of Sanjay’s remand was “a slap on the face of the government.” “The high-handedness of the police and false cases along with the arrests would not demoralize the BJP activists,” he added.
