Hyderabad: A Bhartiya Janata Party worker who set himself ablaze in front of the State unit office at Nampally five days ago died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Thursday, police sources confirmed.
Srinivas, a resident of Tammalani Gudem village in Yacharam Mandal had come to the BJP office on Sunday afternoon and set himself ablaze after dousing himself with fuel. He was protesting the detention of Telangana State unit Chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar recently by the Siddipet police.
The police and local BJP workers noticed him in flames, doused it and rushed to OGH hospital for treatment. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Secunderabad where he died while undergoing treatment. Srinivas had sustained 40 per cent burns.
Following his death the police beefed up security across the city anticipating protest rallies. Additional police force was deployed near the hospital and in Yacharam.
