Hyderabad: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has recently asked the Telangana government and State universities to blacklist colleges that violate fee norms and wanted stringent action against those collecting excess fees from students.

The Commission has also asked Osmania University, JNTU-Hyderabad and Kakatiya University to examine violation of fee structure by private engineering colleges in the last five years besides ensuring that colleges return certificates of candidates that were retained.

The recommendation comes after the NCST took up a complaint by two JB Institute of Engineering and Technology, Moinabad, students who approached the Commission stating that the college was collecting fees exceeding the government order from students belonging to economically weaker sections, particularly STs.

The Commission, which was not satisfied with the response from the JNTU-Hyderabad and Telangana Council of Higher Education, called for a meeting with JNTU Hyderabad Registrar and JBIET principal and asked them to submit a report on action taken within 30 days. It also asked the universities to ensure that engineering colleges adhere to fee structure guidelines.
