BLOs draw salaries but don’t work: Revanth Reddy says, fears losing Kodangal constituency
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy alleged that a BJP-BRS conspiracy was slowing the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Kodangal. He also criticised Booth Level Officers for poor progress and directed Congress workers to ensure complete voter enrolment by July 30.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy attributed the slow progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Kodangal constituency to an alleged BJP-BRS conspiracy. He also held Booth Level Officers (BLOs) responsible for poor voter registration. He feared of losing next elections, if the SIR is not completed effectively in Kodangal.
Addressing a meeting of Congress Booth Level Agents (BLAs) in Kodangal after participating in the SIR process on Wednesday, the Chief Minister claimed the BJP was attempting to delete the names of SC, ST and minority voters. He alleged that the BJP and BRS joined hands to target Congress supporters in his Assembly constituency. He claimed to be working 18 hours a day to develop all 119 Assembly constituencies, while his political opponents were trying to weaken his support base in Kodangal.
The Chief Minister expressed concern that only 1,96,620 voters had completed the SIR process, while 54,635 voters, or about 22 per cent of the electorate, were yet to register. Stating that the pending registrations could affect his electoral prospects, he directed BLAs to ensure 100 per cent enrolment by July 30, ahead of the August 3 deadline.
Revanth Reddy also blamed BLOs, accusing them of drawing salaries without performing their duties. “They are government officials. They don’t work, but sleep, as salaries are credited to their bank accounts,” he remarked, urging the Congress workers to go door-to-door and help eligible voters complete the verification process.
