Hyderabad: In a major blow to Ram Charan‘s upcoming movie ‘Game Changer’ ahead of its release, protests have erupted in Karnataka over the title of the film.
Directed by Shankar , the movie is set for a worldwide release on January 10. Although the film’s trailer has received positive reviews, its release in Karnataka has now become an uncertainty, with protesters urging everyone in the State to boycott the film.
Locals have expressed anger over the absence of a Kannada-language title, with some vandalizing the film’s posters by spray-painting them. This has led to the rise of the hashtag #BanGameChangerInKarnataka across social media.
Karnataka residents, known for their strong linguistic pride, have demanded that the title be translated into Kannada. This protest is part of a larger movement in the State, where businesses displaying non-Kannada signage have faced similar backlash. In recent weeks, even shopping malls and hotels have been targeted for using English over Kannada in their signage.
The issue extends beyond ‘Game Changer’ to other films, including ‘Sankranthiki Vastunnam’, which also faces protests for its non-Kannada title. Videos of defaced posters have gone viral, intensifying the public outcry.
Karnataka’s ongoing protests highlight the community’s commitment to preserving their language and culture. Activists argue that the film industry must respect Kannada, urging producers to recognize the importance of regional languages. As the boycott grows, it remains unclear whether the filmmakers will change the film’s title or if the controversy will continue to escalate.
