Mancherial: The body of Cheekati Raju (29), who was killed in a road mishap in Australia, was repatriated to his native place Luxettipet town and final rites were held on Thursday.
Raju died on the spot when the car in which he was travelling along with friends rammed into a tree at Queensland in Sidney on January 1.
Officials from the Australian embassy and members of Telangana Jagruti brought the body of Raju back to India. His friends took out a bike rally from Karimnagar Chowrasta to the residence of the youngster. Municipal vice-chairperson Srinivas Goud, councillors and local leaders of various parties paid tributes to the techie.
The parents had sought help for the repatriation of Raju’s body at the earliest.
On January 4, IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao assured that his office would take care of bringing back the body to Luxettipet.
The eldest son of flour mill owner and an engineering graduate, Raju migrated to Australia to pursue Masters (MS) in 2018. He settled down in the country after he secured a job with the postal department.
