Hyderabad: Panic scenes are being witnessed almost every day as the RGI Airport continues to receive bomb threat emails and calls related to flights. In the past week alone, at least 10 such emails or calls from unknown persons were received.

Fortunately, all of them turned out to be hoaxes. However, the anti-sabotage teams at the airport are on high alert following a spate of bomb threat messages to various flights.

Anonymous persons have been regularly sending emails to the airport’s customer support, claiming that bombs were placed in flights or that attempts would be made to target them, while giving clear details of the flights.

Over the last week, the airport has repeatedly received these emails, prompting security agencies to scale up their measures. At least five flights were diverted to other destinations or returned to their departure points following the threats.

The RGI Airport police have registered cases against those sending the emails and have begun investigations. However, officials are yet to trace the miscreants.

“We have received several complaints from the CISF authorities and the complaints were immediately acted upon and cases were registered. We are jointly investigating them with CISF officials,” said a senior police official from Shamshabad who is overseeing the investigation.

No concrete details have emerged so far and efforts are underway to track and identify the miscreants, the official added.
