Hyderabad: The handing over of cheques to temple committee members to celebrate the Bonalu festival on a grand note is underway. Ahead of the festival, the State government had sanctioned Rs 15 crore for arrangements for Bonalu celebrations in the city.
On Monday, a cheque for Rs 15 lakh was handed over to members of the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, Secunderabad. In Hyderabad, the festival will be celebrated on August 1 and the temples in that jurisdiction will get cheques on July 26. To get the financial assistance, temple committee members should forward their request to the local MLA of that area or to the Telangana Endowments Department.
Meanwhile, temple committee members and organisations are gearing up for the festival. This year too, on the occasion of Lashkar Bonalu, the Goddesses will be offered a handloom saree. Every year, the sarees are offered under the supervision of the Padmashali Seva Sangam, with the expenditure also being borne by the Sangam. A group of 10 people have already started weaving the saree on the temple premises.
In the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, Secunderabad, the festival will be celebrated on July 25 and the saree will be offered to the deity on that day. Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who oversaw the weaving works, said that every year, women weave the saree piously.
