Suryapet: CPI national secretary K Narayana on Friday demanded filing a case against the Sub-Inspector and constables who indiscriminately had beaten tribal youth Gogulothu Veera Shanker at Athmakur(S) police station, under the Sections of SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act. He called on Veera Shanker at Government General Hospital of Suryapet where the latter is undergoing treatment. He also enquired the tribal youth about the incident.
Narayana said the Sub-Inspector of Athmakur (S) called Veera Shanker to the police station and indiscriminately beat him for two hours without any evidence of the tribal youth’s involvement in the crime. He said it was unfortunate that there was no change in the ‘goon-like behaviour’ of the police even after being reprimanded by the courts repeatedly. The CPI leader demanded an inquiry into the incident by a retired judge. The government should extend Rs 25 lakh ex gratia to the family of the victim, he added.
