Hyderabad: Suravaram Pratapa Reddy was a multi-faceted personality who left his indelible mark on Telangana’s social consciousness and also worked for uplift of the downtrodden as well as development of society as a whole, said Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy. He said Pratapa Reddy was a dynamic person who organised community lunches nearly 80 years ago for uplift of SC communities in the society.
Marking the occasion of Telangana Language Day and the birth anniversary of poet Kaloji Narayana Rao, the second volume of the book titled ‘Suravaram Telangana-2’ which explains Telangana society after Suravaram, was released by professor Eluri Siva Reddy at a function organised at Paidi Jairaj hall in Ravindra Bharathi here on Sunday. On the occasion, folk artiste Kinnera Mogilaiah and dubbing artist RCM Raju were felicitated.
Speaking on the occasion, Niranjan Reddy who edited the book termed it as an attempt to reflect the conditions in Telangana’s society after Survaram Pratapa Reddy. He said a meeting was organised with poets, writers and literary enthusiasts in Wanaparthy recently and it was decided to revive the library in the town by naming it after Suravaram Pratapa Reddy. He reminded that a park was named after Pratapa Reddy in Wanaparthy last year and his bronze statue was installed in the park.
Principal Secretary for BC Welfare Burra Venkatesham, poet and legislator Gorati Venkanna, poet and CM OSD Deshapathi Srinivas, Kaloji award recepient and poet Kotla Venkateshwar Reddy, Cultural Affairs director Mamidi Harikrishna, literary and history researcher Kurra Jithendra Babu and others also spoke on the occasion.
