Hyderabad: The administration of booster doses of Covid vaccines to senior citizens with comorbidities, health care and front line workers got underway in Telangana with Health Minister, T Harish Rao launching the initiative at Government Unani Hospital at Charminar on Monday.

Booster or precautionary doses of Covid vaccines could prove to be vital in the fight against the third Covid wave due to the Omicron variant. All eligible individuals must ensure they get the booster jab at the earliest. People should not have any kind of inhibitions or reservations in getting administered with the precautionary dose, Harish Rao, while launching the vaccination drive on Monday, said.

The booster dose initiative was inaugurated by Harish Rao in the presence of MIM floor leader, Akbaruddin Owaisi and senior MIM party leaders including Charminar MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan and Yakutpura MLA, Ahmed Pasha Qadri, who also got administered with the precautionary dose.

The first dose of Covid vaccines for individuals above 18 years in Telangana has already reached 100 percent in Telangana while all out efforts are underway to complete the administration of the second dose to all eligible beneficiaries. Within a week, Telangana has already administered 38 percent of eligible beneficiaries in the age group of 15 years and 18 years, Harish Rao pointed out.

On the occasion, the Health Minister also assured the local MLAs to take-up necessary measures to improve health care infrastructure at Government Unani Hospital, Charminar.

Speaking on the occasion, MIM floor leader and MLA from Chandrayangutta, Akbaruddin Owaisi stressed on the importance of getting vaccinated and wearing masks. “The ongoing third Covid wave can be prevented only if we get vaccinated, wear masks and follow Covid appropriate behaviour in all walks of life. I urge people of Hyderabad, especially the families in Old City to be careful and take proper precautions so that the Omicron variant can be defeated,” he said.
