Bridge collapses across Palavaagu stream in Kothagudem, no casualties reported

A bridge across the Palavaagu stream at Rajupet in Mulakalapalli mandal collapsed following a surge of floodwaters, disrupting traffic on the Paloncha-Dammapet road. While no casualties were reported, motorists faced inconvenience as police erected barricades and advised alternate routes.

Kothagudem: A bridge across the Palavaagu stream at Rajupet in Mulakalapalli mandal in the district collapsed, severely disrupting vehicular movement on the Paloncha-Dammapet road.

A sudden surge of flood waters in the stream during late evening hours was said to have washed away a part of the bridge while the remaining portion was badly damaged as it developed a huge crack. No loss of life was reported in the incident.

The locals who noticed the bridge collapse immediately alerted the residents in surrounding villages by sharing messages on social media not to venture on to the road stretch. Motorists faced significant inconvenience due to the damage to the bridge that connects many villages.

The police put up barricades on either side of the bridge and advised the public to take alternate routes to reach their destination. Meanwhile, Mulakalapalli mandal received 47.3 mm of rainfall from between 8.30 am and 9 pm on the day.
