Siddipet: Former Minister T Harish Rao said that the brimming Komaticheruvu is a reflection of what Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) did to the State of Telangana.
Speaking after participating in the “Saddula Bathukamma” celebrations organised on Komaticheruvu bund in Siddipet on Sunday, Harish Rao said that Komaticheruvu is overflowing even today despite the State witnessing one of the worst droughts in the recent past.
He said that bringing Godavari water to Siddipet was only possible because of a visionary leader like former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
Recalling the plight of Komaticheruvu before the formation of Telangana, Rao said that the lake used to be full of drainage water until the KLIS was completed. However, the former minister said that the lake was transformed into one of the most sought-after tourist destinations and recreation spots by spending a huge amount of money and bringing Godavari waters.
Greeting the women participating in Bathukamma celebrations, Rao said that Bathukamma is a festival of Telangana’s women. He said that the festival is being celebrated only by the women in the State.
“Even those who were living in various other countries would celebrate the festival in a grand way,” he said. Srinatha, wife of Harish Rao, also participated in the celebrations.
