Hyderabad: With Ukraine turning into a war zone, IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Friday appealed to the union government to arrange for special aircrafts to bring students from Telangana back home safely. He offered that the Telangana government was ready to bear the full travel expenses for these students.
In a tweet, Rama Rao urged union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to take notice of the plight of students from Telangana who are stranded in Ukraine. “We appeal to Govt of India to arrange for special aircrafts & Telangana Govt is ready to bear the full travel expenses for these students so we can bring them home safe & soonest (sic),” he tweeted.
Earlier on Thursday, the Minister who also holds the portfolio of NRI Affairs requested the union External Affairs Minister to ensure the safety of Indian students in Ukraine, amidst several messages from anxious parents of students. He hoped that the Central government was working through diplomatic channels in this regard.
On its part, the General Adminstration (NRI) department opened helplines at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi and the State Secretariat in Hyderabad to help students and migrants from Telangana who are stranded in Ukraine. The Resident Commission of Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi also has been instructed to remain in contact with students and migrants from Telangana as well as extend all possible support in coordination with the union government.
