Nizamabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy on Thursday advised farmers to bring quality paddy to the procurement centres to get Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Speaking after inaugurating a procurement centre established by the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) at Velpur mandal in Balkonda Assembly constituency, he expressed happiness for inaugurating a procurement centre in his village.
Following instructions from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the government was setting up procurement centres, he said. It was the Chief Minister who persuaded the Central government to give MSP of Rs.1,960 for ‘A’ grade variety and Rs.1,940 for the ordinary variety. Since the Centre was imposing rules, the Chief Minister went to New Delhi and persuaded the Centre to give MSP to farmers, the Minister said.
No State in the country including the neighbouring Karnataka and Maharashtra was giving this price to farmers. “The State governments in Maharashtra and Karnataka ignored the interests of farmers but our Chief Minister took the initiative to get MSP only to help farmers in the State. This is the classic example of our government’s commitment towards farmers,” he said.
The Minister said a decision was also taken to open 467 centres in Nizamabad district. “I request the farmers to bring quality paddy to the procurement centres in view of the FCI rules,” he explained.
He asked farmers to utilize the opportunity and avail the facility to get MSP and instructed officials to ensure that procurement process must continue in a hassle-free manner.
