Hyderabad: One Moto, a British electric vehicle company, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Telangana Government for setting up its India manufacturing unit.

The new facility is likely to come up on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The plant will create almost 500 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs in the State.

Hyderabad has emerged as a key market for EVs, with the State government accelerating the EV revolution with supporting policies for production and strong infrastructure. The brand plans to invest up to Rs 250 crore to establish the manufacturing unit.

Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, I&C and IT of Telangana launched One Moto’s three e-Scooters – Byka, Electa and Commuta at Hyderabad on Monday. All the e-scooters are high-speed premium products.

On this occasion, Mohammed Muzammil Riyaz, partner & promoter of One Moto India said, “The idea is to manage all the production in India and cater to the growing market. We aim to manufacture at least 40,000 units in the first phase of the plant launch, and capacity will easily be taken up to 1,00,000 in two years.”

Sameer Moidin, co-founder & partner, One Moto India said, the new manufacturing plant will have major automation integration with additional semi-robotics, and latest manufacturing machinery to produce cutting-edge products. The plant will be spread across 15 acres of area.

Shubhankar Chaudhry, CEO, One Moto India said, “With the new manufacturing plant, we not only aim to serve our customers in India but also export vehicles to other global markets which One Moto is developing.”

There is an opportunity to create jobs in the State of Telangana not just at the manufacturing facility, but also in rural areas. “We will be also setting up skill development programmes with the State since EV after-sales service requires a specialised skillset,” Chaudhry added.

The manufacturing plant will produce all One-Moto fleet in addition to two Indian fleets that are to be introduced by Ellysium Automotives, currently promoting One Moto in India.
