BRS 1,000-day failure campaign rattles Congress government

The Congress government has responded to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) announcing a special campaign to highlight the government’s failures in its first 1,000 days by releasing details of its achievements.

Hyderabad: The Congress government has reacted to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) announcement of a special campaign to highlight the failures of the government during its first 1,000 days by releasing details of its achievements.

Interestingly, the government’s response late on Sunday night also brought to the fore a lack of coordination and unanimity within the State Cabinet, with two separate statements highlighting different sets of achievements being issued within a few hours of each other.

On August 24, BRS working president KT Rama Rao announced that the party would launch a special campaign across Telangana from September 1 to highlight what it termed the Congress government’s failures in fulfilling its promises to the people.

As part of the week-long campaign, the BRS said it would release a charge sheet against the Congress government. This will be followed by a series of programmes, including State-wide protests over the alleged failure to implement the six guarantees.

The Congress government responded by listing its achievements.

Initially, Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy released the “1,000 Days of Welfare and Development – Telangana Report Card”.

In a statement, he claimed welfare and development had progressed simultaneously, with food security, farmer support, women’s empowerment and social justice receiving particular attention.

Uttam Kumar sought to highlight the government’s achievements, including providing fine rice to 3.42 crore beneficiaries, waiving farm loans for around 25 lakh farmers and filling nearly 70,000 government jobs.

He said women’s welfare was another major focus, with free travel in RTC buses providing greater mobility, independence and savings for households. Under Gruha Jyothi, eligible households were being provided up to 200 units of free electricity, while LPG cylinders were being supplied at Rs 500. The Minister also said Rajiv Aarogyasri health coverage had been enhanced to Rs 10 lakh.

Interestingly, within hours, the Chief Minister’s Office issued another statement titled “1,000 Days of People’s Governance”. It said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had successfully completed the 1,000-day milestone of the People’s Government on September 1.

The CMO release listed achievements in economic growth, agriculture and other sectors.

However, the timing and content of the two statements drew attention, with the Civil Supplies Minister and the Chief Minister’s Office issuing separate accounts of the government’s achievements within a gap of a few hours.

The development has raised questions over coordination and unanimity within the State Cabinet at a time when the government is gearing up to counter the BRS’ 1,000-day failure campaign.
